Lai Chau's Climate
Lai Chau is a high border province in the far northwest, deeply dissected by mountains and shaped by a cool mountain monsoon climate. Its rainy season (May–September) brings some of the heaviest rainfall in Vietnam, often triggering flash floods and landslides, while the dry season (October–April) is clearer but leaves high passes like O Quy Ho and the Sin Ho plateau bitterly cold, with rime and occasional frost. Temperatures drop sharply with altitude, so the low valleys stay far warmer than the Sin Ho highlands.
